About Us
For over 50 years, our practice has assisted businesses in obtaining and managing their liquor licences.
Danie led the Liquor Law Department at Cluver Markotter Attorneys before founding Danie Cronjé Attorneys in 2016.
Today, our expanded and strengthened team operates from Colony House at 2 Ryneveld Street, Stellenbosch, providing specialist legal services tailored to the unique needs of the South African liquor industry.

Danie
Director (BCom Law LLB)
Danie leads the firm with extensive experience, providing expert legal counsel to major clients in the liquor, retail, and hospitality industries since 1998. His deep understanding of both national and provincial liquor laws comes from his involvement in the introduction of the National Liquor Act and the introduction of various provincial liquor acts, establishing the practice as one of the most trusted Liquor Law firms in the country.
Danie has represented large retailers in a variety of matters, including a landmark appeal that resulted in the first liquor store being granted a license in the historically ‘dry’ area of Fish Hoek. His expertise and success in such complex matters have solidified his reputation as a go-to adviser for major retailers and distributors, who rely on him to ensure compliance and responsible liquor sales across their operations.
Outside of his professional life, Danie is an avid triathlete, having completed numerous full- and half-distance Ironman events. He strongly believes that maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle is essential to both his professional success and personal well-being.
Lizanne
Associate (BSc LLB)
Joining Danie Cronje Inc. in 2022, Lizanne brings a solid background in commercial and property law, which allows her to expertly navigate the complexities of provincial liquor license applications. Her deep understanding of the Liquor Act and municipal planning regulations ensures that all applications are positioned for success.
Lizanne also advises and assists with objections against liquor license applications, extended trading hours appeals and represents our clients (with the assistance of expert counsel) in a variety of hearings before the Liquor Licensing Tribunal, offering expert guidance on appeals, compliance notices, and penalty proceedings.
Outside of her legal career, Lizanne enjoys an active lifestyle, regularly participating in running races, triathlons, and other physical challenges. Lizanne finds these events to be a great way to connect with the Stellenbosch community and to stay engaged with the dynamic wine and food scene in the town.

Business manager (PhD)
With a PhD in Polymer Chemistry and a strong background in management, Lizl brings invaluable experience to her role as the business manager of our firm. Drawing on her past career, she ensures that the firm continues to thrive while overseeing all National Liquor Act registrations and ancillary applications. Lizl, assisted by the DCA team, also manages portfolios of some of the country’s largest manufacturers and distributors.
Lizl shares her husband's passion for an active lifestyle and has successfully completed two Wines2Whales mountain bike stage races, showcasing the strength and versatility of the Danie Cronje Inc. team.
Melanie
Paralegal (BA Hons)
Melanie has worked alongside Danie for 18 years, managing administrative responsibilities and correspondence with all relevant stakeholders. She plays a crucial role, alongside Lizl, in assisting clients with extended trading hours applications to the City of Cape Town and other municipalities. Melanie's excellent administrative and communication skills make her an invaluable point of contact for our clients. She also assists with the preparation of various applications under the respective provincial liquor acts, particularly for our retail clients, with whom she has earned the utmost respect and trust due to her outstanding organisational abilities.
